01.13.10 | When do I pay interest on my subsidized Stafford loan?
The great thing about subsidized Stafford loans is that no interest accrues while you are in school. Basically, the government pays the interest for you. They also subsidize the interest during your six month grace period, while your loans are in deferment or forbearance, and if you decide to go to grad school. So when do you have to to pay interest? Only when the loan is in repayment. Unfortunately, subsidized Stafford loans are based on need so not everyone will qualify for one, but if you do qualify it is definitely a loan to take advantage of.
