01.14.10 | Still jobless? Grad school is still an option!

Posted in Graduate Loans by Kristin Morris

Graduate StudentThere are definitely signs that 2010 will be a better year for the economy and the job market. Many companies are slowly starting to hire again, but there are still a lot more unemployed people than there are jobs available. If you are a recent college graduate trying to break into the workforce, think about all of the competition you are up against. Why not take this opportunity to get ahead of the competition and go to grad school.

Right now is the perfect time to apply for the summer or fall of 2010. If you hurry you might even be able to take a class or two this coming semester. However, do not rush into anything. Graduate school can be expensive and there is no need to take on unnecessary debt.

If you are serious about the program you choose there are a ton of different financial aid options for graduate students including federal financial aid, private student loans, and scholarships. If you take the route of student loans it is important to borrow responsibly. You never want to borrow more money that what you think you will make in your first year of employment.

Whatever you decide to do good luck and know that the perfect job will be waiting for you soon!

I thought maybe i could get away from grduating the globe high school would be a great idea and just graduat by doing online classes, but then my parnts said that wouldnt be the greatest idea in the world to do. So i decided id stay at th Globe High School and finish because my brother never graduated and i have a sister wo passed away at 17 years of age that didnt get to march in her graduate class. I’m the only one left to grauate and reach my goals i have planned out and to also make my family realize i can do it. They always think im never going to beable to finish what i want to do or they say oyu wont beable to even start your career with the way the economy is right now. But i said you watch me i will make it the way i want to. so I am going to make it happen and I am going to college.!!!!
    Thank You!!!

I am a full time student and grad school never popped into my mind until this article. I thought after college thats really it, but now that the economy is bad, maybe grad school is the way to go for higher education.

I think that everyone who completes their degree programs will be able to find a job. I am finding that there are many jobs available even if you have to commute.
Being unemployed for some is a choice, because even if its not youre dream job there are jobs available until you get your degree.

If you try to get a job these days it is pretty hard, but it’s better to start off slow to get the job requirements needed in a 4-year college instead of trying to jumpstart to pay so much money for education in grad school.

This information is not offering anything new – More education equals more employment opporunity. Though most of us want to earn the best salary we can, often and due to the economy, both then and now, we need to find work as soon as we get a bachelors because we need money now, not later. I know as I am one of them.

yeah. But in some fields, like teaching, getting the grad degree without the experience could hurt in trying to get the first job. Small schools can’t afford to pay an inexperienced teacher the high masters degree wage… so no hire.

I personally think that grad school isn’t the solution for everyone. I mean, if you’re, say, a McDonald’s manager, you probably don’t need grad school. Grad school is most useful for some kinds of business (CEO, etc.), science, humanities, and future teachers, especially college professors.

After going to school for multiple years and paying alot of money it would be very depressing if I couldn’t get a job. However, i think that this recession is coming to an end and hopefully things will get better, especially for people in the medical field such as nurses and CNAs.

I’ve really been debating lately what field I would like to pursue in college, and getting my ph.d has been in the thoughts. But I’m also not sure if I want to be in school for so long, and for so much money. But at the same time I think I would enjoy being a psychologist. Ugh. So much confusion. However it is comforting to know that more jobs are opening up, thank goodness.

Being jobless is one of my greatest fears. after all i just did four years in school and payed 20,000 to become A Registered Nurse and because of the economy and all the competition it is possible of being jobless. Being job less after three years of school would be a total waste. I would have the skill for my own family bet how would i take care of them after i just spent 20,000 on school and JOBLESS. AAAHHHHH what a Nightmare.
